Please join us at St. Bernard High School for our canned goods distribution! We will be handing out groceries, produce, turkeys, and other 'fixings' for your Thanksgiving meal! We will also be providing meals donated by Chick-Fil-A and Vita Coco.
We look forward to seeing you!
Fall is in the air and pumpkin flavored everything only means one thing - Thanksgiving is right around the corner! This year Mrs. Penn wanted OHF to be involved in it’s first ever canned food drive. Her idea played around a battle of the schools in the Los Angeles area, where Dominique was raised. Dominique put together a friendly competition between four neighboring high schools including: Inglewood High School, Narbonne High School, St. Bernard High School, and Alexander Hamilton High School.
The three participating schools have one goal - to collect the most food and items. As a thank you from Dominique and the Open Heart Foundation, the top donating school will be rewarded with $3,100 to use towards a specific department, new or existing programs, or scholarship funds. At the end of the day everyone is a winner with second place school receiving $1,100, and third place receiving $800. Also to reward the students effort, Mrs. Penn OHF will be giving away additional prizes and one overall student who donates the most items will receive (4) Los Angeles Lakers tickets.
It is fun to see it all coming together and how each school is aggressively strategizing on how to collect canned goods. Whether it be parents dressing up as a canned good standing in front of the school to remind students to donate, club members making posters, or pep rallies, it has all been fun to hear and watch! We couldn’t do this without the support of the school’s administration and dedicated teachers, and for that we are thankful!
The OHF team will collect the donations on Thursday, November 21st. So don’t forget to check back in with us in a couple of weeks if you’re interested to hear about the results of our friendly competition. We can’t wait to make this an annual event with more participating schools in the future!
